Onise Silas began her academic journey at the University of Rochester, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science with a Minor in Women’s Studies. This foundation laid the groundwork for her passion for justice and equality.

Continuing her pursuit of legal knowledge, Onise attended the University of Tulsa College of Law, where she earned her Juris Doctor (JD) degree. Upon completion, she was admitted to practice law in Arizona in 2010, marking the commencement of her impactful legal career.

Throughout Onise’s years in practice, she has been an active member of various legal associations, including The Arizona Bar Association, the Maricopa County Bar Association, the Arizona Women Lawyer Association, and the Arizona Black Bar Association. These affiliations reflect her commitment to professional growth and staying connected within the legal community. Her journey in the legal profession has been guided by a profound belief in the importance of ensuring access to quality and zealous legal representation for all individuals in need. Consequently, she dedicated a significant portion of her career to the public interest sector.

Onise served as an Arizona Assistant Attorney General in the Protective Services Division, as well as with the Maricopa County Office of the Legal Defender, where she represented thousands of indigent parents in Dependency matters.

Throughout her career, she handled hundreds of contested evidentiary hearings. As a family law attorney, Onise has successfully obtained many positive outcomes for her clients.

Additionally, her legal journey has involved significant work in the realm of Native American Law. She has had the privilege of working for the Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community where she regularly interacted and applied her knowledge of the Indian ChildWelfare Act (ICWA).

Her calm and steady demeanor is a hallmark of her professional style, providing clients, colleagues, and partners with assurance and reliability in any situation. Whether navigating through complex legal issues or addressing the emotional challenges that often accompany family law matters, her steady presence is a source of confidence for those she serves.

A testament to her resilience and determination, she proudly shares that “we” attended law school – a journey embarked upon while simultaneously navigating the responsibilities of single parenthood. Balancing the rigors of legal education with the joys and challenges of raising her daughter as a single mother has been a defining chapter in her professional and personal growth.

The demands of law school, coupled with the responsibilities of parenting a then toddler, honed her capacity to manage competing priorities with grace and efficiency. It also makes Onise especially emphatic about the issues that often arise in child custody matters and a fierce advocate for protecting her client’s parental rights.
